Itsekiri Progressive Youth Movement Engages with Amnesty Coordinator to Address Itsekiri Students’ Predicament

The Itsekiri Progressive Youth Movement (IPYM) recently engaged with the Interim Coordinator to the President on the Presidential Amnesty Program, Maj. Gen. Barry Ndiomu (rtd.), to address the challenges faced by Itsekiri students at Novena University. Chief Ayiri Emami, the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom, led the IPYM delegation to the office of the Interim Coordinator.

During the hour-long meeting, Chief Ayiri Emami introduced the group, headed by National Chairman Jerry Atiene, to Gen. Barry Ndiomu. Hon Tuoyo Ebigbeyi, the majority leader of Warri South Local Government Legislative arm, outlined the core issues. He emphasized that approximately 5,000 Itsekiri students at Novena University face difficulties, with some having graduated but unable to collect their certificates due to unpaid fees resulting from recruitment process anomalies.

Hon Tuoyo appealed to the Interim Coordinator to consider Itsekiris for the new scholarship application in the 2024-2025 academic session. In response, the Amnesty Boss expressed gratitude to Chief Ayiri Emami for addressing the concerns of his people. He assured the delegation of prompt action to resolve the issues.

Mr. Jerry Atiene, Chairman of IPYM, thanked President Tinubu for his trust in the Amnesty Boss, describing the Interim Coordinator as a perfect fit for the role. He pledged the group’s unwavering support for Gen. Barry at all times. Subsequently, the Amnesty Boss established a 5-man committee to collaborate with Novena University and the Amnesty office to address the challenges faced by Itsekiri students.
