DSS Apprehends Four Kidnap Suspects in Akwa Ibom State

The Akwa Ibom Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in numerous kidnapping incidents across the state. Identified as Idris Abdullahi, Abel Attah Ekong, Itoro Edet Effiong, and Nsisong Edet Effiong, these suspects were captured between February 16th and 28th, 2024.

According to the DSS, the quartet constitutes a notorious syndicate responsible for a string of kidnappings, including the high-profile abduction of Ayo Bambe, the manager of Me Lounge, a popular relaxation spot and nightclub in Osongama Estate, Uyo, along with two others on January 27th, 2024.

The investigation conducted by the command led to the arrest of Abdullahi, who served as the syndicate’s driver in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on February 16th, 2024. Additionally, the authorities apprehended Ekong in Otua Sega community of Ogbia LGA in Bayelsa State on February 26th, 2024. The siblings Itoro and Nsisong were also captured at their residence in Mbak Etoi, Uyo LGA, on February 28th, 2024.

“During interrogation, the four suspects confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping of the three victims at Me-Lounge and various other assaults throughout the state. As a result, the suspects will face charges brought forth by the command at the Federal High Court Uyo, while efforts to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate are ongoing,” the statement affirmed.
