Delta Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency, Hon. Omonade

The House also passed the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice amendment bill, 2024 and the Delta State administration of Civil Justice amendment bill 2024 at Tuesday’s Plenary presided over by the Speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor.

In a statement by the leader of the house, the majority leader, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi moved a motion on the breach of Privilege in line with the standing orders of the house.

The motion which was seconded by the Chief Whip and member representing Sapele state constituency, Honourable Perkins Umukoro called for the member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency to be suspended from the service of the house for 14 Legislative days for gross misconduct, to handover to the management of the house all government properties in his possession as well as constitute an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the gross misconduct by the Honourable Matthew Omonade.

The speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor thereafter ordered the immediate suspension of the member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency, Hon. Matthew Omonade who was escorted out of the hollowed chambers.

Right Honourable Guwor also ordered the immediate handover of government properties including his official vehicle and also constituted six man Ad-hoc Committee to report to the house in one week, to be headed by the Majority Leader, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi.

Also the at plenary, the house passed the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice amendment bill, 2024 and the Delta State Administration of Civil Justice amendment bill, 2024.

The two separate bills earlier scaled through second reading on the floor of the house, where the Lawmakers argued on the need to amend the transition period from 12 to 24 months to enable it’s proper implementation.

In a unanimous voice vote, the bills were passed by the house after it’s second reading.

The speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor commended the Lawmakers for the speedy passage of the bill and expressed optimism that the amendment of the bill will it’s full implementation.

Recall that the amendment bills were sent to the house by the Governor Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori for Legislative consideration.

The House adjourned plenary to Wednesday 15 May, 2024 following a motion by the majority Leader, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by the member representing Ika North East, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola.
