Oversight Visit to Warri Refinery lead by Senator Joel-Onowakpo

On Thursday, 18th April, 2024, Distinguished Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, who represents Delta South Senatorial District at the Senate joined members of the Nigerian Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) Projects of Nigerian Refineries led by the CHAIRMAN of the Committee, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, CON on an oversight visit to Warri Refinery to ascertain the level of work done.

This investigation is a step by the Nigerian Senate to reduce the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

During the tour, the Committee inspected the various units of the Warri Refinery and observed the progress of the ongoing TAM projects. Also, they held discussions with the refinery’s management team led by the Managing Director, Efifia Chu and representatives of the contractor handling the project to address any challenges they may be facing.

The Committee emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of the TAM projects, and stressed the need for proper documentation and monitoring of the projects to ensure that they are completed on time and within budget.

The Committee further urged the officials of the NNPCL, who were also present at the event to prioritize the maintenance of all the refineries in order to improve their operational efficiency and reduce the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

After the event, the Committee paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, at his palace.
