NSCDC Foils Illegal Petroleum Shipment to Cameroon, Warns of Continued Vigilance in Akwa Ibom

In a significant operation on the night of Friday, April 13th, 2024, the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) intercepted and seized 28 drums of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) en-route to Cameroon. The interception occurred on the Mbo River, near the international waters separating Nigeria and Cameroon, during a routine patrol conducted by the NSCDC marine squad.

Commandant Eluwade Eluyemi, speaking to reporters at the NSCDC exhibit yard in Uyo, reiterated the corps’ unwavering dedication to combating oil theft and other illegal activities within the downstream sector of the petroleum industry. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the progress made in this regard.

Eluyemi issued a stern warning, highlighting that Akwa Ibom State remains a focal point for illegal bunkering activities, both on land and waterways. He emphasized the continued vigilance of the NSCDC in monitoring and thwarting such illicit operations.

The successful interception and seizure of the PMS shipment underscore the effectiveness of the NSCDC’s patrols and its commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding the nation’s resources. This operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal activities in Nigeria’s oil-rich regions, particularly in Akwa Ibom State.
