Ayiri-led Faction Physically Assaults and Attempts to Kill Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, at Okere Community, Warri on March 2, 2024

In a shocking incident yesterday, the Ayiri-led faction in Okere Community, Warri, disrupted the “Ugwa Olu” visitation of Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the Olu of Warri, to the people of Okere Community. Loyalists to the deposed Ologbotsere physically assaulted and attempted to take the life of the Olu of Warri in Okere Community, Warri South Local Government Council.

These Ayiri loyalists, along with hired mercenaries in Okere Community, have been engaging in physical assaults against innocent citizens who are loyal to the Olu of Warri. They have also unlawfully and forcefully established a parallel youth administration, with the aim of causing a breakdown of law and order in Okere Community.

It is crucial to emphasize that the visit of the Olu of Warri to Okere Community led to a breach of law and order, as the Ayiri-led faction, led by David Iwere, Oyibo Awani, and some hired thugs, mobilized youths to physically assault and attempt to harm the Olu of Warri.

The attack on the Olu of Warri and his entourage began when they arrived at the Okere Community Town Hall for prayers. These individuals obstructed the Olu from entering the town hall, resorting to physical assault, shooting guns, and throwing stones at him.

As a result, security personnel present at the scene were also physically attacked, shot at, and pelted with stones by members of the Ayiri faction, who have been terrorizing the community. The security personnel had to defend themselves and ensure the safety of the Olu of Warri. Numerous people were injured, and properties were destroyed during these violent incidents.

Currently, the primary culprits behind these attacks on the Olu of Warri are on the run. Some of these hoodlums are still threatening to harm the Olu of Warri and his loyal subjects in the palace. They have vowed to disrupt peace in the community by employing non-tribes and hiring mercenaries to attack community members who are loyal to the throne of the Warri Kingdom.

We, the members of the Itsekiri Progressive Media Team, urgently call on the Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevweri, to intervene in this matter and prevent the deposed Ologbotsere from further disturbing the peace and economic stability of Warri City.

As Itsekiris, we will no longer tolerate such abuse against the Olu of Warri, who is not only our leader but also the father of all Itsekiri people.
