MINISTERS COMMEND NYSC ON NATIONAL UNITY, DEVELOPMENT
….Promise more priority on Corps Security, Welfare
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Barrister Nyesom Wike has acknowledged the contributions of Corps Members to national unity and development.
He described the NYSC Scheme as a great pillar of National development despite the challenges of its operating environment.
Barrister Wike disclosed this today while declaring the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop, with the theme; Strengthening Collaboration with Stakeholders for Effective Mobilization Process”, opened in Abuja.
The Minister, who was represented by the Head of Service of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Udoh Samuel Atang, also said the security and welfare of all Corps Members remain the topmost priority of the FCT Administration.
“We installed solar powered street lights at the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja. This is in addition to other numerous support to the Scheme by the FCTA and l assure you that we will continue to support the NYSC in achieving it’s mandate”, he said.
Speaking further, the FCT Minister enjoined the workshop participants to think and provide solutions to the challenges confronting the NYSC mobilization process.
In her goodwill message, the Minister, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim commended the NYSC Management for its continuous collaborative engagements towards advancing the course of the Scheme.
The Minister, who was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Dunona Umar said the mobilization process is one of the key components of the Scheme’s activities as the role of the stakeholders in the actualization of a successful process cannot be overemphasized.
He added that there is need to strengthen the collaboration with these key players in order to fine tune and enhance the process irrespective of the already achieved gains.
“We must work together and ensure that the main goal of our collaboration which is effective mobilization process is achieved.
I want to specially acknowledge the Director General and his team for providing purposeful leadership to the scheme and ensuring that our shared goals of a better nation are achieved through the mobilization of only eligible Nigerian graduates”, the Minister said.
The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed in his welcome address implored the participants to engage in comprehensive discussions, share best practices and establish strategic partnerships with a view to making the mobilisation process not only efficient, but also adaptable to the evolving national needs.
“The mobilization process is the first step in a journey that shapes the lives of a very large number of Nigerian youths. It is therefore imperative that we are circumspect in the course of conduct of this exercise”, the DG said.
